Palisades Tahoe Snow Conditions and Events January 2022
Our last prediction of a White Christmas proved to be an understatement!
Lake Tahoe broke records for December snowfall as the year came to an end in 2021. In fact, when comparing Lake Tahoe’s previous two record breaking snow years of 2016/17 and 2018/19, Palisades Tahoe reported 13 feet of more snow this December.
With many highway closures, getting to the slopes proved difficult during the peak of the storms and over the holidays. Those who made it enjoyed epic powder skiing! Currently all roads are now open.
As snow showers and a pattern change rolls in on January 3rd, we are expecting winds, which could close the upper mountain late Monday. As of January 3rd, 7 lifts and 53 trails were open. The winds look to be subsiding by Tuesday January 4th, leading to a week of great ski conditions.
January is starting with a few smaller snow events, accompanied by a pressure system change that will bring strong winds to the area. By Friday January 7th, we are expecting a stronger snow system to arrive, and continue through Saturday January 8th.
This week, temperatures will be in the 40’s during the day with partly cloudy skies. After this Friday’s snow storm, the GFS model is showing a drier pattern, at least through mid January. Be sure to check back for more updates on snow conditions.
We are truly kicking off the 2021/2022 Lake Tahoe Ski Season with a great base of snow!
